Mountain Trees like the Peaceful Boats to the right was painted using the same style of mix-media on canvas, at about the same time (early 80’s)… and you can tell.
Craig painted this fresh out of High School. Growing up on the Cumberland Plateau, he loved to camp and be part of nature. Often he would spend a week at a time with his dog hiking around the mountains of Tennessee.
The spot in the middle of the painting is the sun burning a hole through the morning fog and it appears to also burn a hole through a tree. Likewise, when we are ready, the Son shines a light into our hearts. This light burns through our darkness and the fog of confusion that makes us think we want some of those things that brings short-term pleasure but long-term pain and death to joy. The immediate result of seeing this light is great joy and relief.
However, it is not until the darkness in our hearts is illuminated, do we even see the impacts of our actions on our lives, the lives of people we love, and our world. That is when the hard work of correcting old wrongs is revealed, one revelation at a time. The end result is a restoration of peace, honor, joy, and everlasting life.
